The short version
-
We collect little. Mostly what you type into the inquiry form: your name, email, phone, and message, plus basic technical data about how the Site is used.
-
We use it to help you lease a unit. Answering questions, arranging tours, preparing leases, and keeping the Site secure.
-
We do not sell your personal information. Sharing is limited to the leasing team, service providers, and cases the law requires.
-
You stay in control. Ask us anytime to show you what we hold, correct it, or delete it.
1. Overview and Scope
This Privacy Policy describes how The Shop collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you visit contractorshops.com (the Site), submit a leasing inquiry, or contact us about a unit. Leasing for The Shop is handled by McKenna Real Estate, which may process your inquiry information on our behalf. When this policy says we, us, or our, it means The Shop together with the leasing team that supports it.
The Shop is a contractor warehouse and shop space property at 7600 N Teutonia Ave in Brown Deer, Wisconsin, a short drive from Milwaukee. Six customizable units are available for contractors who need secure space for equipment, vehicles, and day to day operations.
This policy applies to the Site and to conversations that begin there. It does not cover third-party websites, listing platforms, or services we do not control, even when the Site links to them. Those services have their own privacy policies.
By using the Site or sending us an inquiry, you agree to the practices described here. If you do not agree with them, please stop using the Site and contact us with your questions.
2. Information We Collect
We collect three kinds of information: information you give us, information collected automatically, and information that reaches us from third parties.
Information you provide directly
Most of what we know about you comes from a form you complete or a message you send. When you submit the contact or leasing inquiry form on the Site, we may collect:
- Your first and last name
- Your email address
- Your phone number
- Your message and the kind of space you are looking for, such as unit size, timing, and vehicle or equipment storage needs
- Details you choose to share about your business, such as your trade, crew size, or current address
- Notes from phone calls, emails, and property tours
Please do not send Social Security numbers, driver's license numbers, bank details, or other sensitive identifiers through the Site or by regular email. We do not ask for that information online. If a lease application requires a credit or background check, that step is completed through a separate screening service with its own privacy practices.
Information collected automatically
When you browse the Site, our hosting and analytics providers may record technical information automatically, including:
- Your IP address and the approximate city or region it suggests
- Browser type, device type, operating system, and screen size
- The pages you view, the links you click, the time you spend, and the page you arrived from
- Dates and times of your visits
This data is used in aggregate to understand how the Site is used and to keep it working properly. Where it is linked to other information about you, we treat it as personal information under this policy.
Information from third parties
We may receive information about you from listing platforms, brokers, referral partners, or social networks when you contact us through those channels or when someone refers you to a unit. If you reach out through a social network, that network's own privacy policy governs the information it collects about you.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect for the following business purposes:
- Respond to your questions and requests, including tours, pricing, and availability
- Prepare and manage leases, unit assignments, and move-in logistics
- Send updates about availability, pricing, and the property, and honor opt-out requests
- Evaluate whether a unit fits your business or storage needs
- Improve the Site, including understanding which pages and units visitors find most useful
- Keep the Site secure and reduce spam, abuse, and fraudulent submissions
- Meet tax, accounting, insurance, legal, and regulatory obligations
- Enforce our agreements and protect our rights, property, and the safety of tenants and visitors
We do not use your information for unrelated purposes without telling you first. We do not make automated decisions that produce legal effects based on the information collected on the Site, and we do not sell your personal information.
4. Cookies and Tracking Technologies
Cookies are small text files a website stores on your device to remember your actions and preferences between visits. The Site and its service providers use cookies and similar technologies such as pixels and local storage.
Types of cookies we use
- Strictly necessary: keep forms working, protect against spam and abuse, and remember your cookie choices
- Functional: remember preferences, such as the unit you were exploring
- Analytics: measure traffic and usage patterns in aggregate so we can improve the Site
- Marketing: where we run advertising, measure which ads lead to inquiries and limit repeated impressions
Your choices
You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings, and most browsers let you block third-party cookies entirely. Blocking cookies may affect how parts of the Site work. You can also opt out of many analytics and advertising programs through industry tools such as the Digital Advertising Alliance (optout.aboutads.info) and the Network Advertising Initiative (optout.networkadvertising.org).
Some browsers send Do Not Track signals. The Site does not currently respond to them, but you can use the browser controls described above. Where a hosting or analytics provider in your region requires a consent choice, the Site will present that option before non-essential cookies are set.
5. How We Share Information
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share it only in the limited situations below:
- Service providers. Hosting, form processing, email, analytics, and IT vendors that help us run the Site, bound by contracts that limit how they can use your data.
- Leasing partners. McKenna Real Estate, brokers, property managers, attorneys, and property owners involved in evaluating, negotiating, and completing a lease.
- Legal requirements. When we must comply with the law, a subpoena, a court order, or a lawful request from authorities, or when we need to protect our rights, safety, and property, or those of our tenants and visitors.
- Business transfers. If the property or business is sold, merged, or financed, information may be transferred as part of that transaction and remains subject to this policy.
- With your direction. For example, when you ask us to share details with a lender, insurer, or business partner.
We may share aggregated or de-identified statistics that cannot reasonably be used to identify you. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
6. Data Retention
We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes described in this policy:
- Leasing inquiries that do not lead to a lease: generally up to 24 months, so we can pick up the conversation if your plans change
- Tenant records, leases, and related correspondence: for the lease term plus the period required by tax, accounting, insurance, and legal rules, typically up to 7 years
- Analytics data: according to our provider settings, usually up to 26 months
When information is no longer needed, we delete it or de-identify it. If a legal or contractual obligation requires us to keep records longer, we keep only what is necessary and limit access to those records.
7. How We Protect Your Information
We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards that are appropriate for the information we hold, including:
- Encryption in transit (HTTPS) for information submitted through the Site
- Access limited to leasing and property team members who need the information to do their jobs
- Confidentiality commitments and contracts with the service providers that handle data for us
- Secure storage of records and periodic review of the information we keep
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot promise absolute security. If a security incident affects your information, we will notify you and the relevant authorities as required by applicable law. Please avoid sending sensitive documents by regular email, and consider sharing them through a secure method we arrange with you.
8. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights regarding your personal information:
Access
Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
Correction
Ask us to fix information that is inaccurate or incomplete.
Deletion
Ask us to delete information we are not required to keep.
Marketing opt out
Tell us to stop sending availability updates and other marketing messages at any time.
No sale of data
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
Non-discrimination
We will not treat you differently for exercising your privacy rights.
State privacy rights, including California
Wisconsin residents and residents of states with comprehensive privacy laws, including California through the CCPA and CPRA, may request to know the categories of personal information we collect, the sources of that information, the business purposes for collecting it, and the categories of third parties that receive it. You may also request deletion or correction, and you may use an authorized agent to submit a request. We verify your identity before acting on a request and respond within the time required by law, generally within 45 days.
Visitors from the EU or UK
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we process your information on these legal bases: your consent, our contract with you, our legitimate interests in operating a property business, and our legal obligations. You may request access, correction, deletion, restriction, or portability, and you may object to processing. Information may be processed outside your country, including in the United States, with appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.
How to make a request
Email [email protected] with the subject line Privacy Request. Tell us what you would like us to do and which email address or phone number you used when you contacted us, so we can match your request to our records. If we cannot verify your identity, we may ask for a little more detail. We do not collect sensitive personal information as defined by state privacy laws, and we do not knowingly collect or sell the personal information of consumers under 16.
9. Third-Party Links and Services
The Site may link to third-party websites and services, such as listing platforms, mapping tools, social media pages, and the leasing broker's website. We do not control those services, and their own privacy policies apply when you use them.
Embedded content, such as a map, a video, or a scheduling tool, may collect information about you as if you had visited the third party's site directly. We encourage you to review the privacy policy of any third-party service before providing information to it.
10. Children's Privacy
The Site is intended for adults and businesses looking for commercial space. We do not direct it to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 or, where a higher age applies, under 16.
If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, email [email protected] and we will delete it as quickly as we can.
11. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this policy to reflect changes in our practices, technology, or legal requirements. The Last updated date at the top of this page shows when the current version took effect.
For material changes, we will post the updated policy on this page and, where required, notify you by email or with a notice on the Site. Continuing to use the Site after an update means you accept the revised policy.
